When It Takes Longer than Expected

At the commandment of the LORD the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.

And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD, and journeyed not. - Numbers 9:18-19

It is an exciting thing when the Lord confirms something for us regarding HIs will. We often look ahead and ready ourselves to go forward after His instruction. But what if God doesn't move us? What if His will for us is to stay put? What if God is silent regarding the future? We then tarry long in our current circumstance.

In most cases, we love to follow when God reveals for us to go forward, but we find it difficult to wait and to wait patiently and courageously when God tells us to stop. So what should we do when we find ourselves 'tarrying long upon' the wilderness?

Like the Israelites, we need to 'keep the charge of the Lord.' We need to be faithful in obeying His already revealed will for us. A preacher once said, "When you lose your burden, rely on the command to motivate you."

In your season of tarrying, be faithful to keep the charge of the Lord. Until He gives the vision, lifts the cloud, or tells you to go forward, be faithful wherever you may be.

"Where the cloud broods, the manna falls."

Dear heart, wait thou only on the Lord even when it takes longer than expected.
